Why Am I Suing The Creators Of Mid-Century Modern
In 2013, I pitched an original television concept called Rainbow Estates — a comedy about three very different men retiring together in Palm Springs. I shared a full show bible, multiple script versions, and detailed character arcs with industry professionals, including a meeting with a key figure who, at the time, had strong connections to major production companies.
Fast forward to 2025. Friends started contacting me, congratulating me on “my” new Hulu show. The problem? I had never heard of it — until I realized they were talking about Mid-Century Modern, a series that mirrors my concept in ways too specific to be coincidence: the setting, the dynamic between the central characters, and even unique comedic beats from my original pitch.
I sent courtesy letters to the production companies involved, outlining the similarities and asking for a discussion. My outreach was ignored. Now, I’ve filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Hulu, 3 Arts Entertainment, KoMut Entertainment, and others, alleging misappropriation, breach of implied contract, unjust enrichment, and more.
This lawsuit is about more than one show — it’s about protecting creative work and holding industry players accountable when they take without credit or consent. For over a decade, I’ve worked in entertainment as a writer and producer, building stories that connect with audiences. I believe creators deserve to have their contributions respected, not quietly repackaged by larger entities with deeper pockets.
